Bank Locker Rules 2025: Tighter Security and Transparent Pricing Introduced

Bank Locker Rules 2025: Indians use bank lockers in great numbers to ensure their assets are protected. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced new regulations in 2025 that make bank lockers more secure, clearer, and offer more features to those using them. They are designed to offer improved service to customers, clarify pricing for lockers, and boost the protection of these areas.

Changes In Bank Locker Charges

The cost of using a bank locker will depend on how big and where the locker is according to the new rules. Small lockers with 6×6 dimensions cost an annual fee between ₹1,500 and ₹3,000, medium size lockers (10×10) cost between ₹4,000 and ₹6,000, and large lockers (12×12 or bigger) cost between ₹8,000 and ₹12,000. It is common for this fee to be 20% more in metro cities.

Improved Security Measures

Now customers will use biometric and dual authentication security methods to access their lockers. Besides this, video footage of each locker use will have to be kept to stop incidences of locker theft or fraud.

Changes In Locker Operation Process

Based on the new guidelines, the locker will have keys for both the bank and the customer, and both will need to use them together to open the locker. If the locker is not used for three straight years, the bank will have permission to open and assess it.

Locker Damage And Insurance Policy

It is now required that the bank give insurance protection for any locker damage. Compensation will be given to the customer if any kind of technical fault or a disaster causes damage to the locker, using the insurance amount provided by the insurance company. The customer must always insure his own cash and jewelry separately.

Conclusion

With these new rules, customers are expected to have better layers of security and improved features. The new structure for locker fees, additional security and the revised insurance will add more value to using lockers. Should you use a bank locker, you must understand and stick to the new rules.
